The Important Moments in Life

Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these. – Susan B. Anthony

When I think about the special times in my life, I inevitably go to the “smaller” moments;

  • Shared looks between close friends
  • That first sip of a perfectly drawn shot of espresso
  • A great quote
  • A phone call from a long lost friend
  • An unexpected rainbow
  • Watching ocean waves
  • The first flowers blooming after winter has ended
  • A great book
  • Holding hands
  • Lights on a Christmas tree
  • A walk in the forest
  • Playing with my dog
  • Seeing anything for the first time
  • Laughing for no reason

I could go on and on. But, the point is that these are the moments that we remember, that we hold dear, that change and affect our lives forever. These times are what living is all about. It’s the details that make our lives special. The more you stay in the present, focused and observant, the better equipped you will be to enjoy the special moments that make up your unique life.
